• 9:00 Arrival at school

We have a long period of focused play and discovery time each day, providing children with plenty of time to start and finish activities at their own pace. During this period children circulate to different centers and areas in the classroom that incorporate our ongoing themes and curriculum. (For example, when we are studying nutrition and health, we may be preparing a healthy snack at one table, cutting pictures of apples at another, our dramatic play area may be set up as a doctor’s office, and we may be washing our baby dolls in the water table.)

10:30 Cooperative clean-up, hand-washing, and preparation for snack
Over the course of time at our school, children learn to wash their hands independently, get their own napkins and cups, pour their own juice, and take turns.

10:45 Snack time together
Children and teachers eat snack together. This is a wonderful, social time where language, social skills, and manners are practiced. Parents take turns signing up to bring in snack for the entire class.boy pouring juice at snacktime

11:00 Book time
This is quiet time to look at books independently. Children are exposed to many different books and authors that rotate on a regular basis. They can study the illustrations, predict story plots, and just enjoy the pleasure of choosing and looking at a book on their own.

11:10 Circle time
This is a teacher-directed time with songs, stories, finger plays, nursery rhymes, music, and movement, all of which go along with our themes and curriculum.

11:30 Outdoor play on our adjacent, fenced-in playground
We play outdoors every day (weather permitting). In the event of inclement weather, we use this time for large group games and large movement activities.

• 11:45 Time to go home!
